Self evaluation examples: self evaluation examples for work written against each objective, employee self evaluation examples at each rating level, work self evaluation examples for a missed target, self review examples of the closing paragraph, and year end self evaluation examples that set up the review (with examples of self evaluation that hurt the writer)

Updated

Self evaluation examples are searched for the night before the review by employees who know what they did and do not know how to put it in a form. The form is the answer: a self evaluation is written against the objectives that were set, one paragraph each, with the evidence and a self-rating, and a closing paragraph that says what the year added up to. This page gives self evaluation examples for work in that shape, employee self evaluation examples at each rating level, work self evaluation examples for the objective that was missed, self review examples of the closing paragraph and year end self evaluation examples that set up the review conversation, and it names the examples of self evaluation that hurt the writer, because a self-evaluation can.

The paragraph per objective, at each level

Met: the objective was twelve new accounts; I signed thirteen, the list is attached, and the two largest came from the referral process I set up in March. Self-rating meets. Exceeded: the objective was to ship the reporting module by the end of the third quarter; it shipped in August and the support team now uses it for the weekly report. Self-rating exceeds. Missed: the objective was to complete cross-training by June; I completed the first station in May and the second was not scheduled because of the summer cover rota; I am booked for October. Self-rating partially meets, with the reason. The free self-appraisal worksheet on this site works those paragraphs from objectives set and met and produces the achievement figure.

The closing paragraph, and the year-end version

The closing paragraph adds up the objectives, names the two things the year showed most clearly, and says what the writer wants next: a development objective, a change in scope, a skill. Year end self evaluation examples differ from mid-year ones in that they close the period: every objective has a final status and the achievement figure is the year's. A closing paragraph that repeats the objectives is padding; one that says what the writer learned about their own work is the part the manager reads twice.

The self evaluations that hurt the writer

Rating every objective as exceeded with no evidence, which forces the manager to write the gap. Rating everything as meets to seem modest, which tells the manager the writer does not know what they did well. Explaining a missed objective by blaming a colleague by name. Writing about effort rather than results. Leaving the form blank and saying it in the meeting, which leaves no record of the writer's view. A self evaluation is the employee's evidence on the record; Reviewvo Pro keeps it beside the manager's rating and the outcome for the cycle.

Questions people ask about self evaluation examples

How do you write a self evaluation for work?

One paragraph per objective: the target, what you delivered with evidence, and a self-rating on the company's scale. Then a closing paragraph that says what the year added up to and what you want next.

Should you rate yourself high in a self evaluation?

Rate yourself where the evidence puts you. Every objective rated exceeded without evidence forces the manager to write the gap; everything rated meets hides what you did well.

What should you write for a missed objective?

The target, what was delivered, the reason it was missed without blaming a colleague by name, and what is planned to close it. A self-rating of partially meets with a reason is credible; a silence is not.
